Nanshiungosaurus is considered to be part of the Therizinosaurus family ("reaper lizards"). Therizinosaurs were herbivorous/omnivorous theropods. It had a long neck, short tail, and wide torso. One of the more unusual characteristics of this dinosaur were the enormous claws on its hands.  Some of these claws could be over three feet long. These claws were probably used to reach for branches to bring down leaves. They may have also been used for defense. Skin impressions from some smaller cousins of Nanshiungosaurus showed primitive, down-like feathers. It is thought that due to its enormous size Nanshiungosaurus did not have feathers.
