The Shire Horse is taller and larger than most other horse breeds. It can also pull heavy weights; at an exhibition in the early 1900s it was recorded that a pair of Shires pulled almost 45 tons. These horses have been used to pull brewery wagons to deliver ale. They are still used for that purpose today, along with being used for forestry and other promotional and leisure activities.
