They are part of the dolphin family, they are the largest and they are also the world’s most powerful predators. Their teeth can be up to 4 inches long and have been known to grab seals from right off the ice. They hunt in groups of up to 40 using effective and cooperative hunting techniques. Each pod has a distinctive sound that allows each whale to identify its pod. Like dolphins, they also use echolocation as a method of hunting and communication. They are easily identifiable by their black and white coloring.
