Loggerhead sea turtles are the most abundant of all marine turtles in the US. Due to many different reasons, they have been on the threatened species list since the late 1970's. Loggerheads have huge heads, strong jaws and a reddish brown shell. Mature females usually return to where they were hatched to lay their eggs, and this could be up to thousands of miles away. Sea turtles are very slow moving on land but they can move through the water at speeds of up to 15 mph.
