Because they can adapt to their surroundings and live in almost any environment, foxes have earned a reputation of being cunning and very smart. They will also adapt their diet to their surroundings, eating almost anything they can find. They usually hunt on their own not in a pack. Their tails serve many different purposes; they can be used to help with their balance, as a warm cover to protect from cold and as a signal flag to other foxes. Winter is their mating season and the female (vixen) can give birth to a litter of up to 12 pups.
